I've heard on the grapevine about a certain challenge involving bloggers attempting to bake a recipe from each week of the amazing BBC show - The Great British Bake Off.
I've been a huge fan of the show since it first aired in 2010, so couldn't resist joining in when I heard about it. I'm not sure who started the challenge or even if it's an official thing at all, but I've jumped in with two feet and this is my result.
I went for a classic Victoria style sponge with vanilla buttercream and raspberry jam homemade by my Auntie. It didn't come out quite as neat as I expected and I'm sure Paul would have something to say about the loose roll, however I'm quite pleased with my first attempt!
The recipe is from an ancient 'Dairy Book of Home Cookery' - it's hardly held together anymore but you can't beat tradition! The sponge is really light and takes no time to cook - I put mine in for 10 minutes but it could have done with 9. The seconds really do count.
I'll try and keep up with the bakes each week, but the next couple of months are going to be pretty hectic for me what with a dissertation to finish, a trip to Edinburgh, a house move and job hunting all on the horizon.
Have you attempted a GBBO bake?
Who's you're favourite so far?
I love Norman - what a dreamboat.
Let's see what biscuit week brings!
